Crew Members Are Mostly From Outside of the USA

There are a lot of reasons, many of which are on this list, that cruise lines don’t tend to hire American workers. However, one of the reasons is simply that Americans wouldn’t put up with the long hours required on a cruise ship.

The typical American work week is around 40 hours long, compared to the sometimes 100-hour long work week on a cruise ship.Pair that with different and less generous overtime rules and lower pay, and it’s not hard to see why there aren’t as many Americans in the cruise industry as there are in other sectors.
