Ford Taurus (1996)

Ford’s recent strategic pivot towards trucks has been in the works for some time, given its mixed history with sedans. While Ford has produced several successful sedans over the years, the 1996 Ford Taurus stands out as a significant misstep. This model was Ford’s ambitious attempt to replicate its earlier successes by pushing the boundaries of automotive design.

However, the 1996 Taurus took its innovative design too far. Its aerodynamic shape, intended to emulate high-end cars, resulted in a host of poorly conceived design elements. The car’s otherworldly appearance made it difficult to market effectively. Additionally, reductions in trunk space combined with an increase in weight adversely affected the vehicle’s performance, further dampening its market appeal.
