Hummer H2 (2002–09)

Including the Hummer H2 on a list of controversial vehicles is warranted, given its impact following its 2002 debut. Stemming from the Humvee, which replaced the Jeep as the military’s preferred vehicle, the Hummer series is known for its imposing size and distinct military aesthetic. However, the H2 was particularly notorious for its poor fuel efficiency.

This issue, combined with an energy crisis and various global political challenges at the time, posed significant problems for GM. The H2’s market presence was short-lived as a result, leading to the eventual discontinuation of the Hummer brand as automakers shifted towards more environmentally friendly practices.
