AMC Pacer (1975)
When the AMC Pacer, a two-door compact car, was first introduced, it received commendations for its fuel efficiency, manageable size, and affordable pricing. These attributes initially made it an attractive option in the compact car market.
However, the initial enthusiasm soon waned as both reviewers and drivers began to criticize its performance. Issues became apparent, particularly during hard stops and sharp turns. There were even urban legends suggesting that the company had to employ a professional race car driver to demonstrate the vehicle’s roadworthiness. Due to these performance problems, the Pacer’s popularity rapidly declined.
