Chevrolet Vega (1971–77)

The 1970s were a period of innovation, and the Chevrolet Vega embodied several new design concepts. These included pioneering approaches to engine manufacturing and rustproofing techniques, which initially garnered acclaim when the Vega launched. It even secured the 1971 Motor Trend Car of the Year award for its “innovative” design.

Unfortunately, these very innovations led to its demise. The new methods left the Vega highly susceptible to rust and corrosion. Moreover, the aluminum engines deteriorated rapidly, resulting in many Vegas being prematurely scrapped. Few survived beyond the 1970s, and junkyards quickly filled with these vehicles.
