Chevrolet Corvair (1960-1969)

The Chevy Corvair was one of the most legally disastrous vehicles ever made. As Consumer advocate Ralph Nader chronicled in his 1965 book Unsafe at Any Speed, the compact car faced well over 100 lawsuits during it’s first five years of production. The culprit? A rear-based engine and issues with the suspension.

Genral Motors would challenge Nadar’s book, claiming that the vehicle was safer than similar models from other manufacturers, but the damage to their reputation and the car’s legacy had already been done.
