HARRY BELAFONTE – 92
Harry Belafonte is a living legend thanks to his contributions to the rise of Caribbean style music in the mainstream music scene. He was honored as the “King of Calypso” from his breakthrough album during the 50s. Aside from his contributions to the music industry, Belafonte also brought home prestigious awards, including two Grammy Awards and an Oscar. He’s also an active advocate and a leading supporter of the Civil Rights Movement.
At one point, Harry even became a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. He sure deserves all the credit in the world for his music and his humanitarian efforts. Belafonte was known for his version of Banana Boat Song, or lyrically known as Day-O, and became an actor starting with Bright Road in 1953 and ending with the 2018 film BlacKkKlansman. He was paid tribute to on his 93rd birthday last March 1, 2020, in a celebration that ended with crowds singing his classic single Banana Boat Song.
