If you’ve ever wondered who founded CNN, or Cable News Network, one of the founders is Ted Turner. Thanks to this business venture, he became a media genius and increased his net worth. But it’s not all about money for this guy as he is also a bonafide philanthropist. One of his most generous donations is giving $1 billion to the United Nations, which led to establishing the United Nations Foundation. Turner also became the chairman of the United Nations Foundation board of directors.

For his personal life, it wasn’t easy also. The media mogul is no longer interested in putting up another media empire. Instead, he focuses on global significance issues that include amplification of nuclear weapons, global warming, and preservation of the environment. With a net worth running to US$2.2 billion, clearly, Ted Turner has plenty of insurance for himself and his children. He’s now 82 years old.
